Homesickness is a common response of someone separated from home. It ranges from mild to severe, otherwise below here are some ways to cope with homesickness:
4. “I will go home again this weekend” to “I won’t go home
every weekend.”
This part is essential to both the parents and the child. It
could be nice to have a home-cooked meal but both parties should also
understand the need to find "the place" on campus and be optimistic
with the independent life.
Based on experience, you may not be able to do assignments
at hometown which makes it more difficult throughout the week. As the practice
of going home every weekend becomes a near habit, you are just pushing yourself
into being caught between two worlds --- an independent adult and a post high
school kid.
Further, it could be a little pocket-stabbing to go home
every weekend otherwise you really have a budget allotted for travel.
3. "I want my life back." to “I will start to make
a life here.”
Most college starters rant about the comparison of their
city life to the life they have back home. Of course, who would not want their
laundries done without an effort, prepared foods at the table, ironed clothes,
and the rest.
Who would not want to go home with all this comfort instead
of waking up blue in the shadows of the dorm? But as we all know, you can't
have a rainbow without a little rain. Instead of avoiding the rain, learn to
dance in it. Take college as a portal leading into your dreams. If you're
thinking about quitting, don't. Someday all of this is going to be worth it.
2. “I feel so alone.” to “Let’s be friends!”
It is
essential that you make friends in the city while you retain the friendship you
have back home. All of our friends and future friends are and will be vital not
only from the angle of fun, but also because of the learning and growth.
One of the main advantages of having friends from different
ethnic backgrounds and cultures is multiculturalism within individuals where
there is the acceptance of the differences within races, cultures and religious
backgrounds.
They who are culturally different from you will develop your
insights into how they live, practices and beliefs that are different from
yours, and yet, it leads to the growth of the both of you. It teaches you that
no religion or culture is better than the other but that each has its unique
features.
1. “Mom, I’m not feeling well. Please, take me home.” to
“Mom, I’m not feeling well but I can handle myself.”
You may
have experienced inability to sleep soundly considering the fact that you have
early classes the next day. With that, you wake up too lazy even for a
five-minute exercise. You find it hard to look for an appetite or in other
cases people binge eat to overcome loneliness which is not also right.
Hunger
and sleep deprivation provokes and inability to think well. Establishing
healthy lifestyle choices like sports, sleep and nutrition enhances proper
cognition to help you analyze and criticize the upcoming situations.
Great entry! I really like your interface!
